A small difference with significant impact. You can use .223 in a 5.56 NATO, just not the other way around.
We currently offer .223 remanufactured ammunition. The main difference between .223 and 5.56 are cartridge pressure and muzzle velocity, 5.56 cartridge pressure and muzzle velocity are higher. I’ve test both bullet weights out of rifles with 11.5”-16” barrel with great results. At the time of writing this our 55g FMJBT performed at an averaged 2900 FPS and 75g BTHP averaged 2500 FPS. 5.56 muzzle velocities are about 200-300 FPS faster.
