Pistol Grain Weights Explained

Sometimes there are to many choices, which grain weight will work best for you?

Whether you're a seasoned shooter or a novice looking to enhance your shooting skills, this information may provide valuable insights when choosing the right bullet weight for you. What is the impact of changing bullet weight? There is a science behind bullet weight, exposing advantages and disadvantages of different bullet weights to provide finding the perfect balance between the shooter's felt recoil and the gun reaction. Changing up the bullet weight can take your shooting skills to the next level.

The 115gr weight is good for any type of shooting. The recoil feels very comparable to factory store bought ammunition with an average muzzle velocity of 1150 FPS. This ammunition will feel more snappy compared to the ammunition listed below.

The 124gr is an ideal choice for competition events like USPSA, IDPA, and Steel Challenge. This ammunition will fell less snappy than the 115gr with an average muzzle velocity of 1050 FPS.

The 137gr is a great choice for competition events. This ammunition will fell less snappy than the 124gr with an average muzzle velocity of 960 FPS. The combination of lower muzzle velocity and heavier bullet allows for less felt recoil that will provide the shooter faster follow up shots.

The 147gr is our most popular for competition events. This ammunition is most versatile for different pistol types with an average muzzle velocity of 905 FPS. Seasoned and novice shooters like the way this ammunition performs. It provides minimal felt recoil and has great kinetic energy to move the stubborn steel plates that get hit on the edge as oppose to center of the plate.

The 160gr is a great choice for competition events. This ammunition has an average muzzle velocity of 830 FPS. The combination of lower muzzle velocity and heavier bullet allows for less felt recoil that will provide the shooter faster follow up shots.

Most people we talk to like heavier bullets for polymer frame pistols and lighter bullets for steel/heavy frame pistols. We have talked to several shooters that prefer the opposite to what was mentioned above. The information shared is a great starting point. Choosing the correct bullet weight for you comes down to personal preference, how fast the sights or red dot settle and felt recoil when firing multiple rounds. Try our Sampler Pack

Our ammunition will be loose packaged and sealed in bags. All of our ammunition is loaded to a specified muzzle velocity and tested with multiple firearms for accuracy and reliability, muzzle velocities will vary between different barrel lengths.
